POST-EARTHQUAKE
DAMAGE DETECTION

WHAT IS RED PEDD?

It is a system we developed to quickly and automatically determine the damage status of a structure after an earthquake, based on quantitative measurements.

HOW IT WORKS?

1- The structure to which RED PEDD will be applied is first evaluated with the rapid earthquake safety assessment method PERA developed by our team. As a result of this assessment, the acceleration capacities corresponding to the Limited Damage, Controlled Damage and Collapse Prevention performance levels are determined on a structure basis. Then, the accelerations that will occur in the structure in future earthquakes are monitored with the RED accelerometers placed on the structure. In this way, damage estimates are made on a building basis after earthquakes.

2- By determining the transverse reinforcement properties of the vertical load-bearing members of the structure, rotation capacities corresponding to Limited Damage, Controlled Damage and Collapse Prevention are determined on an element basis. Then, the maximum and permanent slope changes that will occur in future earthquakes are monitored with RED inclinometers placed on the vertical structural elements. In this way, damage estimates are made on an element basis.

3- As a result of environmental vibration measurements made with RED accelerometers placed on the structure, the dynamic properties (dominant periods) of the structure before the earthquake are determined. After the earthquake, the dominant periods of the structure are determined again with the same measurements. Then, the period changes of the structure before and after the earthquake are determined.

THE OUTPUT

The 3 basic parameters given above are monitored in the structure before and after the earthquake and the damage status of the structure after the earthquake is evaluated. It takes minutes for the data from your structure to reach our systems, the system evaluates it and informs you via text message or email. Our system reaches 2 basic conclusions for the structure with the information it collects. These are;

BUILDING IS OPERABLE

1-The level of structural damage is limited.
2-All monitored elements have limited damage.
3-The change in the dynamic characteristics of the structure before and after the earthquake is limited.

BUILDING IS NOT OPERABLE

The situations where the conditions for Immediate Occupancy are not met.
